A bed with yellow bedding on a green background

The Spruce / Amelia Manley

There are plenty of budget-friendly sheets out there, but once you outfit your sleep space in luxury bedding, you’ll never want to sleep on anything else. While high-end sheets, comforters, duvet covers, and other bedding essentials are undeniably more expensive, they can truly elevate your sleep experience night after night. “Never skimp out on quality sheets—we spend a third of our lives in bed,” advises Anki Spets, designer for AREA Home. From plush comforters to soft, silky sheet sets, top-tier bedding can be a great way to create a more comfortable, restful sleeping environment.

However, luxury bedding isn’t all about the thread count, Spets says. When it comes to cotton, look for sheets made from long-staple fibers, a detail that makes the fabric softer and stronger. Other great options include high-end materials like linen, bamboo, and silk. Ultimately, luxury bedding should feel fantastic to the touch and make falling asleep a cozy, comfy experience.

We’ve tested all kinds of bedding in The Lab and at home, including sheets, blankets, comforters, and pillows. To put this list of luxury bedding retailers together, we examined our previous testing insights and considered the quality and price points of each retailer’s catalog. We also considered which retailers had the best ordering and delivery processes, based on our experiences completing an order. So if you’re in the market for new bedding—no matter whether you prefer classic cotton, soft linen, or even silk—we’ve got you covered with the best luxury brands on the market.

What We Like
  • Timeless styles

  • Certified organic materials

  • Focus on quality and sustainability

  • Complimentary fabric swatches available

What We Don't Like
  • Customer service is only accessible on weekdays

  • Strict return policy

Boasting a catalog that can be described as refined, luxe, and timeless, Boll & Branch has undeniably high-quality bedding that’s both design-forward and exceptionally cozy. The Fair Trade Certified brand is known for its premium bedding and sustainability-centered manufacturing processes, so you can feel good about purchasing its products. The retailer offers a moderately sized selection of sheets, duvets, pillowcases, quilts, mattress toppers, pillow protectors, and more. And although you won’t find quite as many options there as you might at a retailer like Macy’s, Boll & Branch still has plenty of choices for the average customer. There’s no doubt that Boll & Branch’s prices are high, but we think the products are well worth it, considering the retailer’s exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Most of the bedding comes in plain, muted colors with traditional designs like contrast piping, but you can find a few more painterly patterns, including floral, damask, and striped options.

Boll & Branch offers sheets in various fabrics and weaves, including linen, percale, flannel, and chambray. We’re big fans of Boll & Branch’s Signature Hemmed Sheet Set (our Best Overall organic sheet set), which is exceptionally soft, cooling, and lightweight. The Boll & Branch Mattress was also highly impressive in our at-home testing, as it offers top-notch comfort, support, temperature regulation, and movement isolation.

When it comes to shopping on the website, browsing and searching for specific products proved to be effortless, as all of the products are clearly laid out and can be filtered by category, material, and color. Boll & Branch also offers free shipping on all U.S. orders, so you won’t have to worry about having to shell out more money for additional fees. Returns are free—you have 30 days to change your mind, at no cost to you. However, you’ll want to keep in mind that products must be in unused condition with all original tags and packaging. If you have any questions about your order, you’ll have to wait for a weekday. Customer service is only accessible Monday through Friday.

Parachute

Parachute

Parachute

What We Like

  • Free shipping and returns

  • Free style consultations

  • Focus on sustainability

  • Several brick-and-mortar locations

What We Don't Like
  • Fabric swatches aren’t free

  • No warranty on sheets

Parachute has only been on the bedding scene since 2014, so the brand is in its infancy compared to some other storied retailers. But you’d never know it based on its popularity—the brand catapulted onto the scene, thanks to its high-quality bedding at reasonable prices. Though the brand does have a growing number of physical locations, its core business is direct-to-consumer, which helps cut down on overall costs without sacrificing quality in the slightest.

The brand is known for its aesthetics, too. The brand’s sheets mostly come in modern yet timeless earthy, natural tones. There are plenty of choices; Parachute offers percale, sateen, linen, and brushed cotton sheets, as well as down and down-alternative duvet inserts. In particular, we loved Parachute's Linen Sheet Set (our Best Overall linen sheet set) in our testing, noting that they're super comfy, stain-resistant, and great for hot sleepers. In addition to sheets, Parachute offers a plethora of other bedroom essentials like quilts, pillowcases, mattress pads, pillows, and more.

No matter what kind of bedding you’re looking for, searching the site is easy. That's good news since you can’t get any free swatches. Not to worry, though—if you don’t like what you purchased, you can return it within 60 days, at no charge. What’s more, Parachute offers free shipping and returns across all orders.

Return Policy: Free return shipping within 60 days (with some exceptions) | Warranty Policy: Not listed | Delivery Options: UPS, USPS for PO Box addresses, White glove | Payment Options: Credit or debit, Affirm, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay | Retail Locations: Yes | Certifications: Varies, including GOTS-certified cotton, OEKO-TEX Standard 100

Coyuchi

Coyuchi 300 Thread Count Organic Percale Sheets

Coyuchi

What We Like
  • Wide range of bedding

  • Certified organic materials

  • Sustainable and ethical manufacturing

  • Generous return policy

What We Don't Like
  • Limited colors and patterns

When it comes to organic bedding, Coyuchi is one of the industry leaders. All of the brand’s products are made with certified organic materials and eco-friendly processes—however, that doesn’t mean its selection is limited. The brand has just about anything you could want when it comes to luxury bedding, including all of the most popular types of sheets: percale, sateen cotton, linen, flannel, and jersey. Patterns are limited, though; for the most part, Coyuchi’s bedding is available in subdued, earthy colors, like light shades of beige, blue, gray, green, and pink. You can outfit the rest of your bed with luxurious organic items at Coyuchi, too. The brand carries a decent selection of duvet covers, blankets, throws, and quilts, as well as pillows and mattress pads. The result is a perfectly coordinated sleep space in just one shop.

We especially love Coyuchi’s Organic Crinkled Percale Sheets (the Best Color Selection pick in our favorite organic sheets) after testing, and we like the set's pretty colorways, relaxed weave, broken-in feel, and durable construction. We also at-home tested and liked the Winter Weight Down Duvet Insert for its oversized form, generous 600-fill power, and ultra-soft cotton cover to keep you warm on cold nights.

If you prefer to shop online, you can easily navigate your way through the catalog with its organized drop-down categories for all types of bedding. And if your total is over $300, you'll enjoy free shipping. Don’t worry if you can’t see what you’re ordering in person first, either. Even though Coyuchi is at select retailers throughout the country, it has a decent return policy. You can get a full refund for returns within 30 days of purchase. If you miss that window, most items can be returned for store credit within a year of purchase—even if the item has been used.

Return Policy: Free returns within 30 days, or return within one year for store credit | Warranty Policy: Not listed | Delivery Options: FedEx | Payment Options: Credit or debit, After Pay, Google Pay, PayPal | Retail Locations: Yes | Certifications: Varies, including GOTS-certified organic cotton, GOLS-certified organic latex

Cozy Earth

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

Cozy Earth

What We Like
  • High-end construction

  • Design-forward styles

  • Ethical supply chain

  • Free standard shipping

What We Don't Like
  • Small catalog

  • Limited selection of materials

Invest in luxury with Cozy Earth bedding, an online retailer that prides itself on high-quality products, minimalist styles, and responsible manufacturing. According to Cozy Earth, the brand works directly with textile producers in order to ensure an ethical supply chain. On the website, bedding products can reach prices of up to $600, so you can definitely expect to splurge when shopping at Cozy Earth. And although the prices are steep, you can expect to receive well-made, high-end bedding that you’ll keep for life. Cozy Earth is so sure of its product quality that it even offers a ten-year warranty against pilling, abnormal rips and tears, and workmanship defects. After trying out the Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set for ourselves, we were impressed with the product’s buttery-soft texture, top-notch cooling properties, and quality construction—and we named it our Best Splurge choice of all the bamboo sheets we've tested.

You’ll want to note that Cozy Earth’s catalog is fairly small, and most of the bedding is only made from one type of material: viscose derived from bamboo. This makes it very easy to navigate the selection, but you won’t have as many options to pick from compared to other retailers. Cozy Earth also offers free standard ground shipping on all orders, which should arrive in about three to five business days.

Return Policy: Free return shipping within 100 days | Warranty Policy: 10 years | Delivery Options: USPS, UPS, DHL, OnTrac | Payment Options: Credit or debit, Amazon Pay, PayPal | Retail Locations: No | Certifications: None listed

The retailer offers design-forward bedding in both basic colors and unique patterns, so we’re confident you’ll be able to find what you need no matter your preference. While Kassatex’s products are undoubtedly expensive, we’ve been impressed in our testing by the brand’s high-end craftsmanship and attention to detail, so we find that the price point is often justified.

The moderately large catalog includes sheets sets, duvet covers, pillowcases, and more. Additionally, bedding is available in four different weaves: percale, sateen, linen, and flannel. We thoroughly recommend the Linen-Bamboo Sheet Set (our Best Bamboo-Linen Blend set of bamboo sheets), which is soft, lightweight, and breathable. We found that while Riley Home may not have the most extensive catalog, it still offers enough variety to suit most people’s preferences. The website was relatively simple to navigate, though, as we could easily find what we were looking for with little to no trouble. In particular, we like Riley Home’s Goose Down Comforter (the Best Overall, Runner-Up in our favorite down comforters), which provides luxurious comfort with its high-quality construction and smooth texture.

So whether you’re looking for eye-catching pieces or just the basics, you’ll be able to find it at West Elm.

We’ve tested West Elm’s European Flax Linen Sheet Set (our Best Linen pick of our top cooling sheets) in the past, and we loved the product’s soft texture, breathable construction, and elegant look. When shopping, you can browse the easy-to-navigate website and filter through the extensive selection or visit the brand’s brick-and-mortar locations so you can try out products for yourself. The Citizenry

What We Like
  • All products are Fair Trade Certified

  • Artisan-made products

  • High-quality materials

What We Don't Like
  • Restocking fees for some items

  • Not all products available in twin sizes

Boasting an exceptional focus on ethical and sustainable manufacturing, The Citizenry is a luxury retailer with a bedding catalog you can feel good about shopping. Every single product it sells is Fair Trade certified by the World Fair Trade Organization, and the company works with international artisans to produce unique and high-quality products. You can see its mission come through in its products; customers can even shop strictly organic, sustainably sourced, and ethically sourced products on The Citizenry website. And not only do we appreciate the brand’s business practices, but its products are also some of the best around. We’re big fans of the Stone Washed Linen Sheet Set, which has a refined look, durable construction, and luxuriously soft texture and boasts the Best Durable title in our top linen sheets.

When it comes to browsing online, we found that The Citizenry’s website is extremely easy to navigate, as you can use the drop-down menu to shop the smaller catalog of bedding bundles, sheets, pillowcases, duvets, blankets, quilts, and more. You can also enjoy free standard ground shipping on all orders, which will arrive to you in seven to ten business days. If you’re not sure about your purchase, you have 30 days to return your unwashed bedding for a full refund. Nest Bedding

Crinkle Percale Organic Cotton Sheet Set + Pillowcases

Nest Bedding

What We Like
  • Reasonable prices for a luxury brand

  • High quality materials

  • Lots of color options

What We Don't Like
  • Smaller catalog

  • Larger focus on mattresses than other types of bedding

Direct-to-consumer retailer Nest Bedding may have gained its notoriety selling boxed mattresses, but did you know it has also expanded to other types of bedding? Today, you can shop at Nest for pillows, sheet sets, duvet covers, mattress protectors, comforters, and more. The brand’s catalog is on the smaller side, but it offers most of the basics at a reasonable price point. What’s more, many of the products are Fair Trade certified. And unlike some luxury bedding brands, the retailer offers many bold color options.

In general, Nest Bedding provides luxurious and high-quality linens that won’t break the bank. In fact, you can even purchase full-size sheet sets for around $100. We recommend the Nest Bedding Luxury Tencel Sheet Set, which garnered our Best Eucalyptus title after testing the top sheet sets—these sheets are moisture-wicking, cool to the touch, and get softer with each wash. Shopping on Nest’s website proved to be highly intuitive, as everything was laid out well, and the catalog wasn’t super overwhelming. The brand also has multiple showrooms throughout the U.S., which you can check out if you’d rather shop in person. Quince

Quince Classic Organic Percale Sheet Set

Quince

What We Like
  • High-end linens at reasonable prices

  • Unique color options

  • Free shipping and returns

What We Don't Like
  • Shipping times may be slightly longer than competitors

  • Organic certifications not provided

Luxe bedding doesn’t have to break the bank if you buy from Quince, a direct-to-consumer retailer. Quince definitely isn’t necessarily a budget bedding retailer, but it does offer lower price points than many of its luxury competitors despite selling products of comparable quality. It has a moderately sized catalog, with over 80 bedding products across all categories at press time. You can shop for sheets, duvet covers, quilts, shams, and other bedding accessories on the website. Quince offers sheet sets starting at less than $100, which we think is more than fair, considering a similar set may cost you hundreds of dollars elsewhere.

In terms of sheets, you can find percale, sateen, and bamboo options on the site. We categorized the Quince Luxury Organic Sateen Sheet Set as our Best Breathable option of the sateen sheets we tested. This sheet set has high-quality construction, top-notch breathability, and luxurious softness—we just wish Quince's cotton was certified organic by a third party, such as GOTS. We also enjoyed the Organic Luxe Waffle Duvet Cover, which feels exceptionally well made. And if you’re looking to create a unique and elegant bedscape, you’ll want to check out Quince’s wide range of design-forward color options sure to make a statement.

When we shopped on Quince’s website, we found it easy to find exactly what we were looking for and browse through its catalog. Plus, you can enjoy free shipping and returns with no minimum order total. Note that Quince’s shipping time is ever-so-slightly longer than its competitors at six to nine business days, but you can always opt to pay an added fee for expedited shipping.

In addition to mattresses, you can shop for pillows, sheets, duvets, comforters, mattress pads, blankets, quilts, and more within the bedding section of its website. Saatva may have a smaller catalog than some of its competitors, but the entire selection is thoughtfully made with high-quality construction. Plus, you’ll still be able to find most materials, sizes, and styles on the website. However, the color selection is a bit limited, so it’s not the best place to look if you’re searching for bold and unique colors and patterns. But if you love neutral-toned, refined bedding that’s both elegant and durable, Saatva is a great place to start.

Saatva’s website is exceptionally easy to navigate, and you can filter by size, category, and material. It even offers free shipping and returns on all orders, no minimum needed. • Soft, high-quality, and temperature-regulating materials

  • Bundles with or without top sheet

  • 30-night trial period

What We Don't Like

Sijo is a newer brand that's quickly becoming a popular choice for people who want something luxe, cozy, and sustainable. The retailer offers a small-to-medium-sized selection of sheets, duvet covers, pillows, pillowcases, blankets, mattress pads, and other bedding accessories. And while you won’t find a vast selection of fabric options when shopping at Sijo, we think the thoughtful construction and high-end craftsmanship make up for the limited variety. The retailer offers quality materials like cotton, eucalyptus, and flax linen. The color options are also limited but design-forward and muted to suit most styles, whether yours skews classic or contemporary.

In particular, we’re fans of Sijo’s TempTune Cotton Sheet Set (our Best Lightweight sateen sheet set) and AiryWeight Eucalyptus Sheet Set (our Best Cooling eucalyptus sheet set), which are both exceptionally breathable and lightweight. No matter what you choose, you’ll find that shopping on the website is fairly easy, but you may notice a few popups and sale alerts when scrolling through. Be sure not to close out of these too fast, though—the information can often include discount codes which can help if you choose to make a purchase. Additionally, Sijo offers free shipping for all orders over $100, but you’ll have to pay a $9.95 fee if you don’t reach that minimum. All of Sijo's products also come with a 30-night trial period, during which you can return your purchase for free with no questions asked.

Brooklinen

What We Like

  • Contemporary design

What We Don't Like

Another relative newcomer founded in 2012, Brooklinen is also a direct-to-consumer bedding company that has quickly gained a loyal following. This is all due to high-quality products, like the Luxe Core Sheet Set, which get rave reviews from buyers—including us! In our at-home testing, we enjoyed the sheet set’s contemporary design, soft texture, and breathable construction.

Brooklinen is not only committed to manufacturing high-quality products, but it’s also highly focused on aesthetics. When shopping on the site, the selection isn’t endless, but you can find just about anything you’re looking for. The brand offers cotton, linen, and cashmere sheets, as well as a handful of blankets, quilts, and other bed accessories. Sheets and shams, duvets and quilts, and even mattresses—when it comes to your sleep space, Pottery Barn has pretty much everything you’re looking for.

When shopping for bedding on Pottery Barn, you won’t want to skip over its top-notch sheet selection. We’ve tested many of the brand’s products firsthand, and we enjoyed the 700-Thread-Count Sateen Sheet Set (we gave it solid marks in our at-home review), which has a pleasantly lightweight yet durable construction.

Navigating the website proved to be simple and intuitive, as you can use the filter tool when browsing and searching for products. If you’re having trouble making your selection, there’s a solution for that: You can always use the brand’s free online design service to ensure you pick just the right thing to suit your space. Of course, you can also visit one of the brand’s many brick-and-mortar stores. If you live close to a Pottery Barn store, it’s a great option for returns, too. What We Don't Like

The high-end retailer, which carries everything from furniture to wallpaper, is home to a large selection of sheets, duvet covers, and blankets. While much of Serena & Lily’s bedding catalog is impressive, we specifically love the Baywood Quilt (the Best Splurge in our top quilt picks), as it’s the perfect year-round pick that’s both stylish and exceptionally cozy.

Everything is nice and easy to find, too—the website is sorted by category, and you can also filter by color, size, price, availability, and more. You can choose from a wide range of solid and patterned linens to suit your preferences. Some bedding even complements other products available for purchase on the retailer’s website.

Not entirely sure what you’re looking for? Serena & Lily provides a free design service to help you narrow down your choices. The company will even ship you up to five bedding swatches for free. If you prefer, you can also see the bedding in person by making an appointment at one of the brand’s design shops, which are located all around the country. If you’re really undecided, it may be worth the trip—the brand’s return policy is one of the less-friendly ones. Any returns are subject to both a shipping and restocking fee.

How We Tested the Luxury Bedding

Here at The Spruce, we’ve tested all types of bedding products in The Lab and our homes (including over 200 sheet sets to date!). That means we’ve had to order bedding from a lot of different retailers. To compile this list, we reviewed our testing insights to determine which retailers offer the best shopping experiences for consumers. We evaluated how easy it was to navigate each website, the overall return process, customer service helpfulness, expected delivery windows and shipping fees, and package/product condition once delivered.

What to Look for in a Luxury Bedding Brand

Thread Count

It’s common to assume that the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the bedding—but focusing exclusively on this sole detail can be a bit deceptive. Despite conventional wisdom, Raili Clasen, interior designer and founder of RailiCA Design, doesn’t recommend looking at thread count when shopping for luxury bedding, as she’s seen 400-count sheets that “feel like cheap satin.”

Thread count will only tell you the number of threads in a square inch of fabric, so it’s really only an assessment of how tightly woven a given sheet set’s material is. It doesn’t necessarily determine details like softness, coolness, or silkiness. And there are some materials, like bamboo, lyocell, and Tencel, that don’t feature thread counts, yet are incredibly luxurious in feel and construction. To properly assess a piece of luxury bedding, you’ll want to consider factors like material, construction, and certifications.

Fabric or Material

A variety of different types of fibers make up the fabrics and materials used to create luxury bedding. While the fabric certainly affects a product’s softness, durability, and overall feel, this detail also determines the higher price of these goods. Luxury bedding can include everything from cotton sheets, duvets, and pillowcases to linen or bamboo—but typically, the fibers used are of higher quality than you’d find in more budget-friendly bedding. There are no synthetic fibers used in luxury products or blends of synthetic fibers with materials like cotton or silk.

For example, organic and long-staple cotton are higher-quality versions of typical cotton (and while traditional cotton might be considered “lower quality” by some, it can still be lovely to sleep on!). Linen and Egyptian cotton bedding are considered even higher-end. Silk and eucalyptus are also popular luxury picks.

Certifications

There are a variety of certifications that luxury bedding brands commonly put on their products, including:

  • Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification: Verifies the product was made using organic materials and processes.
  • Responsible Down Standard (RDS): For bedding using down feathers, verifies that the materials come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm.
  • Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX: Verifies that every component of the product has been tested for 100 specific harmful substances.
  • Fair Trade Certified: The product was made according to rigorous social, environmental, and economic Fair Trade standards.
  • Certified B Corporation: The brand meets standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

Price

There’s no real definition of what makes bedding “luxury.” As a result, the distinction is typically determined by price. Luxury bedding typically starts at around $100 for a set of sheets, but it can range upward of $1,000 from truly high-end brands. That gives you quite a wide range to shop, and it includes all types of different bedding products.

While you’ll want to consider a retailer’s price range as you shop for bedding, it’s also a good idea to look for retailers and brands that offer products in bundles or sets versus individual pieces. Bundles often cost less than buying each piece separately, though some luxury bedding brands will only sell products as single standalone items.

FAQ
  • What is the difference between Egyptian cotton and Supima cotton?

Both Egyptian and Supima cotton are billed as being super high-quality and luxurious, but there is a difference between the two. Supima cotton, or superior cotton, is grown in the United States and woven with long fibers for enhanced strength and softness, particularly over time. Egyptian cotton also has longer fibers, but it tends to be a bit thinner than Supima cotton, so it’s typically softer from the start.

  • What bedding thread count lasts the longest?

Thread count alone isn’t an indicator of quality and longevity. The lifespan of your bedding will depend on how frequently you use it and whether you care for it properly. Parachute estimates that luxury cotton sheets will last for around three years with daily use, while linen sheets can last five years or longer. Duvet covers and other blankets can often last for several years before needing to be replaced. When you notice your bedding is ripped, fraying, stained, or worn out, it’s time to replace it.

  • Does luxury bedding make a difference?

Many people believe that luxury bedding is a worthwhile splurge, including Clasen: “We spend so much time in between the sheets that it’s worth every extra penny,” she says. Luxury bedding is often softer and more attractive than lower-quality products, and it’s also made from more durable materials and construction, which means you won’t have to replace it as often.
