The Bruno Sofa takes a less traditional approach than some other sleeper sofa options: it doesn't have a standard mattress, instead relying on foldout cushions (and an optional mattress pad) as a sleeping surface. The entire process takes less than two minutes and won't need more than one person to complete; in fact, we found it to be so intuitive that even a younger adult could do it. When it came time to sleep, the cushions felt firm and less lumpy than traditional sleeper sofa mattresses.

This option doesn't come with armrests, which might be a deal-breaker for some, but has the added benefit of saving space and accommodating taller guests. The mattress is made of foam and gel, which keeps you cool and provides ample support. The supports are reinforced and have adjustable feet to make sure that your pull-out bed is level even if your floors are not. This is not a cheap sleeper sofa but it is a quality piece of furniture that you will love for years. We've tried the queen-sized version at home and found it to stand up well to daily wear and tear (though the arm cushions, which are on the thinner side, might need some extra love). What's more, the slipcover makes this sofa super-easy to clean; the covers dry quickly and are seamless to put back on, which isn't always the case. The twin-sized option offers all of these perks without the size. If you want some extra sleeping space and a quality piece of furniture but aren’t ready to splurge on a larger style, it's a great option.

When you consider that it folds down into a Queen bed, it quickly goes to the top of our list for value. The FRIHETEN is on the wider side for extremely small spaces at just over 88 inches, but it will still fit in dorms, guest rooms, kids’ rooms, or bonus rooms.

Like all furniture from Ikea, you will need to assemble the sofa. You can pay for expert assembly, but that will increase the price slightly. It comes in five different fabric options. Reviewers noted that the cushions were very hard and that you may want to invest in a mattress topper to increase your comfort. Fortunately, bedding, pillows, and a mattress topper can all be stored inside the couch when not used as a bed.

They are made to order, which means that delivery will take 10 weeks or longer, and you can’t return the sofa unless there are manufacturing defects.
