We purchased Bissell's Hard Floor Expert Deluxe Canister Vacuum so our writer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

If you are looking for a powerful vacuum that will glide smoothly across hard flooring, then you have many options. Like the Bissell Hard Floor Expert Deluxe Canister Vacuum, the best of them has powerful suction and a well-designed head to pick up dirt, dust, and grime. After testing the Bissell Hard Floor Expert in our home for about a month of almost daily cleaning, we realize it's also quiet, versatile, light, and budget-friendly. Before you buy, read on for a more in-depth look at the features that make this vacuum a great choice.

Assembly: Everything clicks into place

You won’t need tools or very much time to put together the Bissell Hard Floor Expert Vacuum. After unwrapping the parts and reading the instructions, we were pleased to find that the hose, canister, and various brushes all clicked in and out of place easily. We needed to insert two AAA batteries into the handle. Still, they came included with the vacuum, so it wasn’t a hassle.

Design: Light and versatile

After using this vacuum for just a few days, we were impressed by Bissell’s attention to detail in terms of creating a vacuum specifically for hard floors. The wheels are made of rubber so they won’t scratch or mark floors, and the brush has extra soft bristles. The hard floor tool is ideal for removing fine dirt and debris off of hard flooring and performs well. Additionally, this vacuum comes with 3 complementary non-hard floor tools: a carpet tool, a dusting tool, and a crevice tool. These add-ons make this Bissell a versatile vacuum that can clean upholstery, blinds, and carpets just as well as tile, ceramic, and wood.

To make your life easier, this Bissell’s is only 9 pounds. It’s so light and easy to maneuver; it doesn’t feel like a chore to move around or stow it away. Even the handle and hose are light and easy to lift. The dirt tank on this vacuum isn’t huge (only holds 1 liter), but it’s easy to locate, remove, and empty. We didn’t have any problems with the automatic cord rewind, and the canister also has a nice handle so that you can carry it around while you clean if you choose. It has a telescopic wand that extends with just a click; you can adjust it to your height.

Performance: In this case, believe the hype

If you get a sense of dread when it is time to haul out your vacuum to clean a mess, well, this machine dashes that feeling. The Bissell Hard Floor Expert Vacuum is not bulky, awkward, or heavy, and it has variable suction levels you can control from the handle without reaching down to the canister.

At the max level, the suction is powerful and could compete with any carpet-specific vacuums. On the lower setting, which we used on more delicate surfaces like blinds, you still get good suction. This vacuum handily removes hair, dust, and dirt on hard floors and leaves you with a clean surface.

Maneuvering the vacuuming around the room is easy, and the flexible 5-foot hose was the perfect length for reaching high to clean curtains, blinds, and dust-covered overhead fans.

Noise Level: Quiet and soothing

We couldn’t believe how quiet and smooth the Bissell Hard Floor Expert sounded when it was running. Even at max suction power on hard floors, the sound wasn’t a bother. This vacuum sounds deep and consistent—like perfect white noise should.

Size: Small but packs power

We like how small and sleek this vacuum looks. It is light enough to store on a shelf when not in use. Everything comes apart easily, and it’s truly a breeze to carry from room to room or even out to our cars if needed. Even though they might save space, a stick vacuum or handheld vac cannot compete with this corded canister vacuum's suction power. The hardwood tool's size also makes this vacuum perfect for cleaning tight spaces in corners, behind furniture, and under chairs.

Price: Somewhere in the middle

For just under $200, you could certainly spend less on a basic hard floor vacuum, but it wouldn’t be as good-looking, smooth, and powerful as this Bissell Hard Floor Expert vacuum. Everything about this vacuum is intuitive, well-designed, and versatile. Since Bissell is a trusted name brand in household appliances, we think the price is fair for what you get: a light, quiet, and reliable vacuum that makes cleaning a breeze.

Even at max suction power on hard floors, the sound wasn’t a bother.

Bissell Hard Floor Expert vs. Dyson V7 Hard Floor

For around the same price as the Bissell Hard Floor Expert, you could opt for Dyson’s Hard Floor Vacuum, the wireless V7. Like the Bissell, it’s bagless, but it’s wireless and does not have a hose. The Dyson V7 may be considered top of the line, but it lacks the features and add-ons that come with the Bissell from our experience. We liked the carpet and crevice tools, small hardwood head, and flexible hose. If you need a versatile vacuum and don’t want to bother with battery life, we think the Bissell is a better choice.

Final Verdict

We’d recommend it to our friends.

Out of many high-end vacuums on the market, the Bissell Hard Floor Expert Canister Vacuum is right up there. It’s easy on the pockets, easy to use, and easy to store. Not to mention it has soothing suction sounds.
