Glidden's 2024 Color of the Year Is a Soft, Buttery Hue

Just don't call it yellow

When it comes to color and how we use it in our homes, there are plenty of design guidelines to follow. The 60-30-10 rule is a long-time Spruce favorite, for example. Of course, it's simply advice worth considering and not something you have to do. However, if you're talking about Glidden’s pick of Limitless for their 2024 Color of the Year, the PPG paint brand has one major, serious rule.

You Can Call the Buttery, Warm Hue Anything But Yellow

Liken it to champagne bubbles, a sandy beach, or a fluffy stack of pancakes—just know that Limitless is so much more than just a buttercream hue. The explanation is right here in the name. Glidden’s Limitless is so versatile that it can’t possibly be contained to one shade, just like it can’t be contained to one trend, aesthetic, or room. It can’t even be contained to just the indoors.

The brand gave us a look at the honey beige hue, and here’s what they had to say about their selection for the Glidden 2024 Color of the Year

It’s Versatile Enough for Any Use

“We are entering a new era of explosive creativity and change,” says Ashley McCollum, PPG color expert for Glidden. “Limitless understands the assignment and embodies this perfectly.”

While last year’s pick of Vining Ivy was a moody pop of teal that can’t help but make a statement, Limitless is more about working with a whole host of shades while never truly blending in. In fact, in making their selection this year, Glidden wanted a color that was versatile enough to work in unconventional ways. So even if you’re not planning a full design overhaul, it’s easy to incorporate Limitless into your home because it's a color that works beautifully with both new and existing decor.

Think of It as the New Gray

Over the past year or so, a debate has raged: is gray out? Designers, decor experts, and home stylists are all torn, but we can collectively agree that the formerly ubiquitous shade is not nearly as prevalent as it once was. McCollum says Limitless is the perfect replacement.

“This modern neutral is as adaptable as its name implies and is taking the place of cool neutral tones that are so last year,” she says.

It’s Perfect for a Glow-Up

While we wouldn’t dream of calling Limitless a pale shade of yellow, we do see how it can be the perfect way to inject a dash of sunshine into any room. As the Glidden team notes, the hue’s adaptability means it pairs well with both warm and cool tones, making it a great way to give a room a glow-up.

“As an interior color, it works on all four walls, accent walls, trim, and cabinets,” Glidden's press release announcing its pick said. That’s because it’s a fresh, energizing neutral, making it a great color for attracting attention without overpowering a space.

Use it on your front door as a welcoming dash of color, offset your kitchen cabinetry by using it on the walls, or pick it as the base for your next DIY project. The options are, well, limitless.

“Warm neutrals are here to stay, replacing cool tones like gray for both DIY and pro segments in 2024 and beyond,” says McCollum.

Glidden is available at The Home Depot and Walmart locations across the U.S., independent retailer locations nationwide, Glidden.com, and on Amazon.
