Michelle Lau joined Dotdash Meredith as Commerce Editor for Appliances, Cleaning, Organizing, and Home Tech at The Spruce in October 2022, bringing with her years of experience researching, reviewing products, and editing for lifestyle publications. Michelle enjoys working on stories to inform, entertain, and make life simpler for readers. Her work has appeared across national digital outlets, including at The Kitchn and Yummly, as well as for regional magazines, including Sunset and Via.

Michelle began her career at Sunset magazine, where she worked as Research Chief and Editor of Special Publications while cultivating her love for the West.

She has tested plenty of cleaning and organizing products, and has led testing for dusting tools, under-bed storage, and vacuum storage bags on The Spruce.

Experience

Prior to joining The Spruce, Michelle worked for Apartment Therapy Media as Lifestyle Editor at The Kitchn, where she focused on stories about cleaning, organizing, kitchen renovations, and design. Michelle also worked closely with the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as editor at the School of Medicine at Stanford University. She began her editing career with Sunset magazine, covering travel, home, food, and garden.

Since then, Michelle has focused her skills on editing and writing reviews and testing products at The Spruce. When she's not busy editing and writing, she loves discovering new home products and talking about her tried-and-true favorites! Currently, she's testing a cozy Coyuchi Pebbled Handstitched Organic Quilt and the Dreametech R20 Cordless Stick Vacuum.

Michelle has a Bachelor of Science degree in magazine journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from San Jose State University. She has also earned a Master of Arts degree in ethnic studies from San Francisco State University.
