Long-time followers of TikTok couple Adam and Jessica Miller of Old House Adam know all about the couple’s lovingly restored North Carolina home. So, when the Millers invited us in for a virtual tour of their beautiful space, we couldn’t wait to take a peek! 

Keep reading to see how their nest has evolved from there place where Jessica grew up into the beautiful home where the pair are raising their own children.

Location

“Our home is located in the historic district of Downtown Concord, North Carolina,” Jessica Miller shares with us. “It’s our hometown, and actually, this was my childhood home that we purchased from my parents.”

 Traditional With a Twist

In describing her aesthetic, Miller shares that she gravitates toward different styles. “I would say that my design aesthetic is a mix of traditional and eclectic with a minimalistic vibe," she says.

That certainly shines through in the design of their home, thanks to its history. “Our home is a colonial-style with Greek revival columns built in 1906,” Miller tells us. “It’s around 5,500 square feet and three stories with the attic turned into our primary suite. On the lot, there is a pool and art studio with the vibe of a historic carriage house.”

It's this exact history that pulled the Millers in from the start. “What attracted us the most was the built-in character of the home—that almost always comes with a historic house,” she says. “The tall ceilings, the wood moldings, pocket doors, and two staircases are just a few of those interesting details.” 

A Front Porch Made for Gathering

“The most memorable part of the outside of the house is the wrap-around front porch,” Miller says. “Many baby showers, anniversary parties, and wedding showers have taken place in this southern spot.”

Miller tells us that the front porch also boasts another highlight. “The best view is definitely the front porch swing view. It’s so lovely with the other historic homes and families and friends walking by. It’s perfectly shaded with a breeze from swinging and the birds always chirping in that one special space of the home, it becomes the perfect combination of senses.” 

Original Hardwood Floors Throughout

“There are original hardwood floors throughout, both the first and second floor, that we recently had refinished,” Miller says. “We also added a 2-inch white oak flooring laid in a chevron design in the back of the house in the living room and kitchen.” 

The True Heart of the Home

“My favorite thing about the kitchen is the oversized island for all of our children and extended family to enjoy, and our Big Chill range,” Miller says of the home’s beautiful kitchen. “This amazing duo leads to lots of family dinners and gatherings, which is a must for our family.” 

Making Historic Features Pop

 “What I love most about our bathroom is that we didn’t lose the character for trends,” Miller says. “We kept the cast iron tub and chunky pedestal sink that was original to the house and just highlighted those features with updates around them. Every design element allows for those items to shine.” 

Bedroom Oasis 

In describing the home’s bedrooms, Miller says there’s one standout characteristic: “I love the tall ceilings in all of the bedrooms. It’s very much an oasis from the outside world.” 

A Constantly Evolving Project

If you’re new to Old House Adam, have no fear—there is still a lot of work to be done and projects to watch unfold.

“We have lots of plans to update spaces and we plan to take our time since it’s our forever home,” Miller says. “Our next big renovation is our second-floor bathroom which needs some love and a few extra amenities. After that is finished we can’t wait to tackle the laundry room in the basement and really show its full potential.” 

A Sewing Room Turned Creation Space 

“Most of our rooms are traditionally used but we recently turned the sewing room into an office and space for Adam to create social media content,” Miller says. “We chose that space for the access to the second-floor balcony. It’s a very moody and masculine design with lots of found and vintage objects.” 

Extra-Special Light Fixtures

While the Millers are excited to update certain elements of the home, there’s one piece that will always remain. “The most beloved items in our home are probably the chandeliers that have been with the house as long as I can remember,” Miller says.
